i hate having to sleep, it feels like such a waste of time. i would love to be able to have the gift of 2hr sleep and do something useful with the extra time.
is 8, 7, 6, or 5 hours best?
its easy to say "eight" automatically, but i'm thinking that is a whole hour that could be used.
but how many hours does God want us to have?

Nothing like a quick response to a question. The answer to your question is as varied as there are people in the world; but, I think you already knew that. What you are asking is, "How much sleep do I need?" That can best be answered by objectively observing yourself for a week or two. First: How much sleep are you averaging right now? Under this category, do you find you sleep in a lot more on weekends, when you're not working, than during the work-week, or do you find you wake up automatically more or less about the same time as during your work week? Second: Do you wake up before the alarm clock goes off, or does it startle you out of a sound sleep? The latter might indicate that you are not getting enough sleep. Conversely, if you wake up before it goes off and find you can't get back to sleep, you might be getting just the right amount of sleep, or perhaps just a bit too much. Third: (And this is where observing yourself objectively comes in) - Do you find yourself getting sleepy during the normal course of your day? Is your judgment being affected; e.i., Are you making large/small decisions that you later look back on and wonder what you were thinking. One of the biggest areas in your life that is affected by lack of sleep is judgment. The less sleep, the poorer your judgment. Please keep in mind: If you do not get enough sleep, you cannot mentally, physically, or spiritually overcome it, except to catch up on your rest. You cannot force yourself mentally to overcome the effects of being tired and continue on. Studies have shown that lack of sleep results in the same characteristics as too much alcohol. Check with family members and trusted friends to give you feedback on this, if necessary. Finally, I am reminded of a story I heard some decades ago when I was younger (as memory serves). It seems that the noted Christian speaker and evangelist D.L. Moody was traveling by train to an engagement with some younger acquaintances who were eager to impress him. Their travel continued through the night, and the next morning one of the eager young men met D.L. Moody and exclaimed, "I stayed up all night, reading scripture, to try to be a better servant of the Lord." To which Mr. Moody replied, "I slept all night, so as to actually BE a better servant." You are not the first to want to sleep less, in order to do more. The limitations God has placed on our bodies, however, are such that sleep is required. Exactly how much, is something the two of you will have to discover together.
