Hi, all!
My hubby and I are running away to the coast for the weekend! Leaving tomorrow (Fri) morning and coming back on Sunday afternoon. Just a quick trip, but I am so looking forward to it. Maybe the sun will even shine while we are over there!!
I have thrown away the remains of the Christmas feasting, and when Monday rolls around, it is back to basics!
Hope everyone has a safe evening tonight and a long relaxing weekend!

Which coast? (Just being nosy) Let us know how you enjoyed your weekend.
PS: I just finished the last piece of Jesus' birthday cake. It was chocolate. With white frosting.
Well, after all, it was His birthday, and His cake, and I couldn't let it go to waste, right?

Hi Dennis!
We went to Gold Beach, on the southern Oregon coast, about an hour north of the California state line. The weather was amazing, mid-fifties and sunny, my spirit rejoiced just to be out of the fog for awhile! We had a very relaxing time, walked and rested and just hung out. I have 3 live crab in my garage waiting to share with kids and grandkids tomorrow...yummy!
I did pretty good in the eating dept but not perfect by any means. I had half a crab for dinner last night with custard pie for dessert. Lots of salad though...
Hated to come home but the kitties need us. Hope you all had a great weekend as well.
Renee
PS: The answer to the inevitable question is: yes, the crab scream when we drop them in boiling water, but we can't hear them!

I wasn't going to ask about the crabs, cuz I enjoy them too much to want to know. I don't know if I told you before (middle-age-memory-syndrome, you know) but I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, just 7 miles north of Bellingham. Thus, I am very much aware of the joys and peace of visiting the seaside. My favorite is Chuckanut Bay, south of Bellingham. Hark! Supper is called! I must needs partake of sustenance! More later.

Hey Dennis! Yes, you did mention once that you came from the Pacific Northwest, but never said where exactly. Bellingham is way north from us, and I imagine that the weather there is even rainier than Seattle?
We live in Medford, Oregon. Our weather is actually pretty decent here, we have 4 distinct seasons with a long growing season, winters cold enough to make the lilacs pretty and summers hot enough to grow great tomatoes. I grew up in Denver, so the cold doesn't bother me, but I do get blue when the fog sets in for weeks on end. I think it's just about the prettiest place I've ever been, but I'm probably prejudiced! LOL!
How did you end up in New Mexico? (Which is another pretty place, btw...)

How did I get to the southwest? I joined the Air Force in '75. After basic and advanced training I was assigned to Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. I met my wife here. After a tour in Alaska, college in Spokane, a short job and unemployment, we ended up back in Albuquerque for Christmas in 1983 and stayed.

Funny, that's how I ended up in Denver! My father was in the Air Force, he was stationed at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls OR when I was born, then was transferred to Lowrey AFB in Denver and we just kinda stayed there. After I got out of high school, I ended up in Oregon through a long series of strange events, and although I moved back to Denver once and to the SF Bay area for awhile, Oregon really is the only place that ever felt like home!

I got to "run away" over the holidays as well. God provided free airfare for hubby and I to Maui for the week between Christmas and new years. We left the morning of Dec 26 and returned home early morning of Jan 3. It was supposed to be a late night flight departing just before midnight on the 2nd, but the flight was delayed with a minor mechanical problem and left early morning on the 3rd instead.
You wouldn't believe how well God took care of us on that trip...we kept getting the "best of the best" such as front row center seats to events, the best table on the ship for a dinner cruise, on the whale watch, dolphins found our boat and accompanied it for over an hour, giving us a show better than you see at Sea World! (Usually they only stick around about 10 minutes or so and don't do as much of the jumping, spinning in air, tail walking, etc).
Also when we went snorkeling, the sea turtles kept swimming up to me and touching the noodle that I was using to help stay afloat. They pretty much swam away from everyone else, but they kept coming up to me cuz I had asked God if I could please see a turtle up close. It was so kewl.
Oh yea, He also got us in an event (zip lining) that was sold out weeks in advance and there just happened to be a 2 person cancellation for that day called in minutes before we called. We are told that cancellations are "very rare" and yet God arranged one for us at just the right time.
I must say, it is SO FUN to be in His hand of blessing and I was constantly astonished at just how good He was to us. It was an amazing/restful/fun and romantic getaway for us. I did not realize how must stress I'd been under until I got a chance to truly relax for a week...it was awesome and God is awesome. He is a great Daddy and He takes such loveing care of us.

Wow! A whole week away! That must have been awesome!
I love how God takes care of us both at home and away! We drove to the coast in a rain storm, they had just had 6" of rain in the couple of days before we went over. I was desperate to get away, and decided I didn't care if it did rain, we were just going to relax anyway. Lo and behold, sunny the whole time, no wind, big full moon over the waves in the mornings. I was so humbled by the love God showed us...even had a rainbow on the way over, just for me!
Hope your relaxation lingers through this busy time you've got coming up, Teresa. And welcome back!

Middle age memory syndrome is really catching hold of me; I forgot to share that Joan and I, also, got to "run away" after Christmas. Our youngest son flew in from Phoenix on Christmas Eve, but had to be back to work Monday morning. We drove to Phoenix, leaving Sunday morning; 7 1/2 hours later we arrived to sunny and somewhat warmer than Albuquerque. We had a very enjoyable couple of days there, departed Wednesday morning to come back home. Left Phoenix at 9:00 am on I-17 north, 2 hours later we're in Flagstaff and snow. Joan took over and we headed east on I-40. The farther we drove, the more snow we encountered, until, 20 miles into New Mexico, you couldn't see the lines on the interstate. I took over driving duties (one of the perks of being a truck driver is that people think we can drive when no one else can), and wouldn't you know it: within 15 minutes the snow cleared up, the highway was clear, and it was smooth sailing all the way home.
I will admit to not wanting to come back home after seeing all those bougainvilleas blooming in Phoenix, and so many trees that never lose their leaves, even in winter. Sigh. It doesn't compare to Hawaii, I will admit. However, it really is much easier to drive to Phoenix than it is to drive to Hawaii from here. Shorter distance, too.
