Hi, all. Sorry I haven't been checking in lately. My desktop is at Geek Squad. It picked up a malicious email virus that made it past the firewall; it has been using my computer to send malicious emails whenever the computer was turned on. My ISP sent a notice to get it fixed, or be permanently banned from their internet service. Geek Squad initially promised to have it back to me in 3 to 5 days (it has been 6 days this evening). According to the nice lady I talked to today, a better estimate was 5 to 7 days. Augh! I am using my wife's laptop from work to write this. She gets to bring it home evenings and weekends, but this tiny keyboard is driving me crazy! At least we can keep up on emails. It took me a bit to find this chat room from scratch. I have it stored in my favorites list on my desktop. Hopefully I shall be able to get my computer back in the next day or two.

Isn't it amazing how much we depend on our computers? I would be totally lost without mine...I do research, keep up with friends, read the news, write my articles & skits, I can't imagine life without it! I went to a meeting last week for our creative arts dept and worked on some skit ideas for the Sunday after Easter, and I was so frustrated having to try to write bits of dialogue in (gasp!) longhand! LOL! I can keep up with my own brain much faster on the keyboard!

Friday update on the computer: I have to take the Windows XP and all my driver disks in tomorrow. Geek Squad ran 5 different virus checks and each of the 5 found 2 viruses each. Not good. The bad news is that the last one they tried to eradicate corrupted the operating system. I hope and pray that I have all the driver Cd's!

Uh, that would be a big negatory on the data save. They charged me to back up, so I was confident all was well until I got the computer home. I went to reinstall the data, and the folders were empty. (I got a refund for the unsuccessful backup.) There's a spiritual lesson in here somewhere, I'll have to contemplate it and find it. For now, however, it's time to leave for Good Friday services. More later.

Bummer! I'll be interested to see what spiritual postulation you can arrive at from this experience!

You may remember that my desktop computer went out in March with a virus that made it past my firewall and corrupted my Windows XP operating system. I took it to a professional computer repair store to be fixed, but their backup did not work, and Joan and I lost everything, except what we saved on our thumb drives. When I got the computer back, all it had was the operating system and the drivers. What we had saved was almost nothing. I've had to reload everything, programs, favorite sites, etc.
I've been wondering what the blessing might be in this, and how to best share what I've learned from it. Well, it has occurred to me: I notice that my computer responds much, much faster now. It does what I need it to, with great speed and...almost, eagerness.
And so it is that when God's children get bogged down with the things of this world that we consider to be so very important and essential…things we cannot conceive of living without…we become slower in our response to Him, and our eagerness suffers. If we don't clean out our unnecessary files and such, He will clean them out for us; and, He may do a much more complete overhaul than we think He should. But, He will do it if He considers it important to our well being, because of His great love for us. The result is a change in our lives, our response for Him, and our eagerness for Him. It might be painful for a season, but when all is said and done, we wouldn't change the end result for anything in the world.

Awesome connection, Dennis! Thanks for sharing that...seems I needed to read that right now. Isn't God great?!
