Someone (Durhamlass) said something in another thread that was so good that I want to share it..and then discuss it. She said:
"I do OK for a while and then something happens and this living sacrifice crawls off the altar so that she can deal with the problem her way."
We have been going just over a week now, and I am guessing that some of you are starting to crawl off of the altar. I.e., you are starting to loose your motivation and fall back into old patterns. If we were just doing a diet, that would be "unfortunate" but understandable. However, this is different, because we entered into an agreement with God almighty to try to give Him lordship over this area of our lives...and He has a really good memory. We might want to give up, crawl off the altar and go back to what we know and to what is comfortable to us. But God heard us when we told Him that we want to learn to do it His way...and He is expecting each of us to follow thought on that commitment.
Now, He is no dummy, and He knows how hard it is for us to make these changes. I believe He is both willing and able to strengthen us, and help us walk this out...but we do need to run back to Him and tell Him that it is hard for us and try out to Him to help us!
I know that some of us are loosing enthusiasm. I can tell because the number of visits to the board and the number of daily posts is going down...and also because a few of you have mentioned this. I want to encourage you to run back to Daddy God and tell Him about your struggles and ask Him to help you press through them. I believe He will help us as we run to Him, so that we can be successful. Yes, we will have little slip ups from time to time--for example, yesterday was NOT a good day for me eating-wise. But a slip-up doesn't mean we should quit or give up. It is a bit like riding a horse...when we "fall off," we get back up on it and we keep going. And our Daddy will forgive us for the slip, and then help us get back on track.
And this isn't just a diet...this is about giving God lordship in an out of control area of our life. Of course it is a battle/struggle at times--if it were easy to do this, then that area would not be "out of control." But as long as we don't give up and quit, then God will help us until we finally succeed...even if it is constantly two steps forward and then one backward.
So I want to encourage everyone to mentally take stock of where you are at in this process. If you are struggling or having a bad day, then go back to God, tell Him about it and ask for help. I don't think He minds us struggling as we endeavor to put this area under His lordship. In fact, I believe He will help us to stay motivated if we tell Him that our motivation is starting to wan and ask Him to help. He wants us to succeed in this even more than we want it for ourself! - teresa
