Many years ago I heard an amusing story about the origin of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Granted, this particular story is not the true one about widower Bob May and his daughter, Barbara, but I like it, none-the-less.
During the days of the Soviet Union, a devout Communist weatherman named Rudolph stayed up one Christmas Eve with his wife, who devoutly believed in Saint Nikolaus, even when it was not so wise or safe to do so. The weather was unusually warm this particular Christmas Eve, so that there was no snow to be found anywhere in the village. In spite of the unusual weather conditions, Rudolph's wife waited eagerly to hear reindeer hoofs on their rooftop. Just about midnight they heard a noise, a soft patter, from the roof of their house.
"Reindeer!" gasped Rudolph's wife. "Rudolph, it's reindeer I hear on the roof!"
"I'm sorry to disagree with you, my dear," replied Rudolph, "but I believe what we are hearing is rain."
"No, I'm sure it's reindeer," she replied. "Let's go outside and see!" And so the couple got up, walked to the front door, and stepped outside to find...it was raining.
They closed the door and went back to their chairs. "I'm sorry, my dear," said Rudolph, "but you should have known a good Communist weatherman would recognize that sound. After all..."
(wait for it.....)
"Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear."

LOL! You know it takes a brilliant mind to think up those punny jokes, and equally brilliant minds to appreciate them! Thanks for the laugh!
