It seems that He is not satisfied with just lordship in one area--He wants every area! Let me tell you the story. I have one of those car radios that supports both CD and Tape and I had this old prophesy tape in there from a couple of years ago that I never pulled out. The other day as I was driving, God told me to listen to the tape. I was amazed at how relevant it was to NOW. It was a really long word, about 25 minutes long. And most of it was SO encouraging...UNTIL
Well, there was this one section where God was giving me instructions to limit my television to 2 hours a day. That was an old restriction that I'd totally forgotten about, until I heard it on the tape. (I guess I did not do a very good job of obeying it the first time around, because I'd totally forgotten that God had even given me that restriction.) When I get tired, I like to vegetate in front of the TV..sort of half watching and half sleeping. I would say that I probably average somewhere closer to 3.5 hours a day than 2, some of which is social time with hubby at night (on the nights when I'm not out ministering).
I did not like the idea of having a 2 hour restriction on TV, so I told the Lord "This part of the prophecy doesn't apply to me today, right? I mean this is old stuff from over 2 years ago."
And God answered, "Did the rest of the prophesy apply to today?"
I had to admit it did. So I told the Lord that I really did not like the idea of a restriction on how much TV I could watch. I mean, probably 50% of the time I would watch less, so why couldn't I watch more on those other days? It would sort of average out over the course of the week.
And God said, "Teresa, you are a 'boredom eater'--you eat when you are bored and half the time that you watch TV, you are bored. So even though it doesn't feel like it is related to putting your eating under my Lordship, this will help you to avoid eating when you are bored but not really hungry."
I did not like the restriction, but I had no choice except to obey it.
Well, yesterday was a very busy day for me (Monday's usually are) and I did not have a chance to watch my 2 hours of TV. So about 11:00 PM when all else was done, I turned on the TV and sat down to watch. I hadn't eaten since about 5:00 PM and wasn't hungry...until I'd watched TV about 20 minutes. Then I got hungry and had a nutrition bar (I like the South Beach Brand, the peanut butter and chocolate ones). When I finished it, I was still hungry (or so I thought). So I ate a second one. That was a total of 360 calories. And about 20 minutes later I was still hungry, so I had some corn puree soup (another 110 calories).
Then as my first show (1 hour) was ending, God reminded me that I'd just consumed 470 calories--and said, "See, I told you so. You tend to eat stuff you don't need when you are watching TV, and that is why you need to limit how much TV you watch."
So God's seemingly unrelated restriction that felt like He was "stepping on my toes" turned out to (in fact) be directly related to putting my eating under His lordship after all.
